The 1935 Society

The MFWC 1935 Society is devoted to the renovation and restoration of the MFWC Headquarters located in Jackson, Mississippi. The Headquarters, which is both on the National and Mississippi Register of Historic Buildings, was constructed in 1935 with funds raised by clubwomen and the WPA. The MFWC Headquarters is also the repository for the records of a 100+ years of service by clubwomen to our state and nation, houses important pieces of furniture donated by club members, and is a landmark in our state's capitol city.

To help show your commitment to the renovation and maintenance of the MFWC Headquarters, become a member of The 1935 Society. The first 100 subscribers were designated charter members. Donors of $500 or more will be patrons and donors of $1,000 or more will be grand patrons. Individual and club memberships may be purchased, though membership in the society is not limited to club members. Click here to go to the printable form to mail in with your donation. Contact President Fisher for more information.

NOTE:  Phase II plans were completed, bids let and the contract was signed in early January.  The projected start date is March 1; projected completion date is July 1, 2004.  Bids all came in above budget so some things had to be cut from the overall project, i.e., a security system, paving of the driveway, kitchen appliances, entrance gate, and landscaping.

We have 1935 Society monies for two terms and designated money for headquarters restoration, so we should be able to cover all of these items.  However, we had hoped to use those "monies in hand" to decorate:  new drapes, new carpet, recover furniture, etc.  If any district, club, or individual would like to donate money for any of the above, we will be so appreciative.  There is a decorating committee in charge of the selection process.

***SPECIAL THANKS TO DEBBIE WILLIAMS, GFWC-MFWC FLORENTINE EVENING CLUB MEMBER AND OWNER OF RIVERWOOD APPLIANCES, PEARL, MS,  FOR HER OFFER TO PROVIDE THE KITCHEN APPLIANCES FOR THE HEADQUARTERS IN CONJUNCTION WITH HER COMPANY SUPPLIERS.  PLANS ARE BEING FINALIZED FOR THIS GENEROUS CONTRIBUTION.  MFWC APPRECIATES THIS SO VERY MUCH.
